AB 2651 should be opposed because it pressures families, invites stigma into school communities, and gives government more influence over private medical decisions that belong to parents. California children deserve equal access to education without discrimination, fear, or coercion. Parents should be the ones making decisions about their children’s health, not some out of touch bureaucrat in Sacramento.
In its amicus brief, PERK urges the court to uphold California’s protections for children online and recognize the growing danger posed by addictive social media feeds. The brief argues that these technologies are designed to maximize compulsive use among minors, often harming children’s mental and emotional well-being while weakening the ability of parents to guide their children’s development. PERK stands firmly for the principle that protecting children and preserving parental rights must come before the interests of powerful tech platforms.
