We sent out one final coalition letter regarding SB 1377 (Jones). This bill would not be possible without Senator Brian Jones and the bipartisan support from co-authors Senator Cortese and Senator Allen.
As the sponsor of SB 1377, on behalf of PERK, I want to encourage us all to keep the faith and tenacity. We appreciate all the organizations that have been supportive and the PERK Board and Team are grateful for their continued support. As the sponsor, we are calling on all of you and all organizations to trust the process. Regardless of whatever the outcome is this week, this is a new beginning.
There is inaccurate and harmful information being shared online regarding SB 1377. It is unhelpful, untrue, and divisive. We’ve been allowed to share with you the following information. First, and most importantly, the bill is NOT dead. It received a 3-4 vote and did not pass in the Health Committee AND it still may be up for "reconsideration" at the next Senate Health Committee meeting this Wednesday, April 22nd. SB 1377 is not dead and it needs our prayers to continue.
PERK has seen success so far this year, including a letter from the White House. PERK is actively supporting and opposing 17 bills currently in the California State Legislature, as well as 5 bills being pushed through the United States Congress. Donate to allow us to continue to do this good work and push the good legislation through and block the bad legislation out!
