In Part 1, I shared how SB 1377 came to life and the year of quiet work behind it. Part 2 covers what happened once the bill went public and the pressure started.
Days before the first hearing, we were told the Senate Health Committee Chair would not pass the bill as written. We could refuse the amendments and watch it die before it was ever heard, or accept them and keep fighting. Together with Senators Jones, Cortese, and Allen, we chose to keep it alive. That agreement came with a promise.
Then we walked into the hearing, and that promise didn't hold.

SB 1377 did not pass this year. But for the first time, Republicans and Democrats worked together on medical exemptions in public, and the conversation left the back hallways of the Capitol. We are now working toward an informational hearing and preparing to bring legislation back.
