It would have required schools to notify parents when the California Department of Public Health determines that a school’s immunization rate has fallen below a state-established threshold. PERK strongly opposes this bill because it risks turning school immunization rates into a tool for pressure, stigma, and discrimination against families with lawful medical exemptions or children who are not fully vaccinated.

AB 2651 should be opposed because it pressures families, invites stigma into school communities, and gives government more influence over private medical decisions that belong to parents. California children deserve equal access to education without discrimination, fear, or coercion. Parents should be the ones making decisions about their children’s health, not some out of touch bureaucrat in Sacramento.
In partnership with Firefighters for Freedom, who graciously gave PERK permission as a trusted organization to poll their stakeholders, PERK launched a key survey among approximately 5,000 firefighters in the state of California. The results were overwhelming. The vaccinated and the unvaccinated alike want medical freedom.
In its amicus brief, PERK urges the court to uphold California’s protections for children online and recognize the growing danger posed by addictive social media feeds. The brief argues that these technologies are designed to maximize compulsive use among minors, often harming children’s mental and emotional well-being while weakening the ability of parents to guide their children’s development. PERK stands firmly for the principle that protecting children and preserving parental rights must come before the interests of powerful tech platforms.
PERK is proud to support SB 1377 because this bill is vital to health freedom, children’s access to education, and solves the devastation California families have experience for more than 7 years related to medical exemptions. This is our moment together! It’s about whether parents, patients, and physicians in California will be treated fairly when a legitimate medical exemption is necessary.
